About our Reindeer
Our reindeer are either homebred or imported from Scandinavia. We use castrated males for sleigh pulling and they are trained specifically to the Scandinavian way. Our bulls and cows are used for breeding purposes only. The reindeer at Blithbury have it much easier than their cousins in Scandinavia, they have to pull sleighs at speed - where ours only have to walk.
Our Reindeer are very happy to live at Blithbury because we have no predators, where as in Scandinavia they do. That’s why the males that are trained to pull the sleighs stick close to the farm when not working as to avoid predators.
The reindeer at Blithbury are looked after to the highest standards of husbandry and we have close links with Scandinavia to keep up-to-date in all methods of reindeer husbandry.
