Blithbury Reindeer Lodge, nestled in the peaceful hamlet of Blithbury just outside of Rugeley has experienced its best ever calving season with over a dozen baby reindeer being safely delivered during May. They’ve also just received a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence Award for 2015, reflecting the consistently positive visitor reviews this attraction has received over the last 12 months.
Baby reindeer, known as calves, are notoriously difficult to breed with a high number of deaths in the wild every year. Blithbury Reindeer Lodge, home to the largest working reindeer herd in England and a licensed zoo, has worked hard over the years to establish a strong breeding programme, something which has paid off in droves with this bumper delivery. The Lodge, which is open to the public for special events during the year, including Christmas, has been praised by visitors for its authentic and magical events, high standards of customer service and beautifully kept and well cared for reindeer herd.
Stephen Swinnerton, owner of Blithbury Reindeer Lodge, said “We’re absolutely thrilled to have added to our herd so significantly over the last few weeks. Rearing reindeer calves isn’t an easy task, and our experienced team have had to help out with a large proportion of these deliveries some of whom were breech, too large for mums to deliver, or weren’t getting enough milk in the first few hours. As the leading experts on reindeer husbandry with decades of experience, we knew when to help and when to stand back and let nature take its course. This has resulted in more than a dozen healthy calves joining our herd, and their mums thriving in their new roles.”
He continued “The icing on the cake was receiving a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence for 2015. This is a true source of pride for the entire team at Blithbury Reindeer Lodge and we’d like to thank all of our visitors who took the time to complete a review on TripAdvisor. As this is based solely on customer reviews, the accolade is a remarkable vote of confidence in our business and our continued commitment to excellence.”
Stephen finished “To thank our visitors for their support and help in achieving this award, we are inviting the public to Blithbury Reindeer Lodge this coming weekend (6 and 7 June) to meet our new arrivals at a special Meet the Babies event. This is a rare opportunity to see calves as young as 2 weeks old engage and interact with their mums and other reindeer calves. We can’t think of a better way to celebrate their arrival and our award win”.
