Visitor info & FAQs
Q. Are you open during the summer?
A. As Blithbury Reindeer Lodge is a working farm we are only open to the public for events on certain dates in the year, the details of which will always appear on our website and our social media sites. The rest of the year we are busy looking after the Reindeer, our other animals and maintaining the Lodge. We also need to ensure the Reindeer have adequate rest after their busy Christmas period!
Q. Do you offer group visits?
A. Blithbury Reindeer Lodge welcomes group visits during Christmas and at other times during the year by prior arrangement. For more information please see our groups page.
Q. Is Blithbury Reindeer Lodge suitable for wheelchairs?
A. We have worked hard over the years to make the Lodge as accessible as possible for all visitors. We have concrete walkways around the entire Lodge, all public spaces have ramp access and we have disabled toilet facilities.
Q. What facilities do you have for children?
A. Our entire site (except some areas of the car park) contains concrete paths so that pushchairs and small children can get around easily. We also have baby changing facilities and high chairs in the Tea Room.. We also produce children’s activity sheets and maps as part of our events.
Q. Do we need to wear anything in particular?
A. Blithbury Reindeer Lodge is a working farm so dressing in your party wear probably isn’t the best idea for your visit. In the summer we would recommend that you wear a hat and lots of suncream as the Lodge is surrounded by open fields, so it doesn’t get much shade. During the winter we would recommend that you wrap up warm as quite a lot of our attractions (including the Reindeer) are outside. We are located on a hill so it can get very windy. Hats, gloves, scarves and wellies/boots are best and we always love to see Christmas jumpers and headwear around the Lodge!
Q. Do you have any catering facilities on site?
A. We offer light refreshments in the barn and there is a Tea room located on site.
Q. Where are you?
A. Blithbury Reindeer Lodge is located in the small hamlet of Blithbury, on the outskirts of Rugeley. We are within easy travelling distance of Stafford, Stoke-on-Trent, Uttoxeter, Lichfield, Tamworth and Burton and just under an hour from Birmingham. Rugeley Trent Valley is the closest train station although there is limited public transport running past the Lodge. Further directions can be found here.
Q. How do you look after your Reindeer?
The welfare of our Reindeer, and our other animals, is our top priority. After 25 years of working with Reindeer, the Reindeer Man is widely acknowledged as being an expert on Reindeer health and welfare. As you would expect our Reindeer are kept in tip top condition through a healthy diet, regular worming and feet trimming and we even apply sun tan lotion to our white Reindeer during the summer to stop them getting burnt. We work extensively with the Reindeer to train them in things they show a natural aptitude for, whether that be sleigh-pulling or visiting sick children in hospital. We never make an animal do anything they don’t want to do.
